Day 125 – Hobart bound

Up for the latest check out we’ve had in a while!

Head out with our stuff to the Pentridge Prison mall where we grab a coffee at Mela Pattiserie

Two large flat whites while we wait for Daisy’s phone to be fixed from Michael’s Phones Coburg

Realising it’s going to take a little longer, we finish up and head to the nearby Coburg Lake Reserve

Here, they have parks and well maintained water ways to encourage life; this includes Bin Chickens as they have their very own island!

We wonder around seeing all the ducks, Black Swans, Moorhens and more – over bridge and over another back to the original side

They have an area where trees are dedicated to war heros, called Avenue of Honour

Bags getting heavy, and we’re sure the phone can’t take too much longer now, we head back to the prison to grab a spot of lunch

A fancy-sounding champagne ham sandwich and pasta salad from Ritchies IGA Pentridge

Woo – phone’s fixed, let’s make tracks!

We make our way to Batman train station to reach Southern Cross which has a bus terminal hosting the Sky Bus

This is the only available public transport to get you to the airport without your own car – quite pricey too!!

We’re running a tad late… panic!

When we arrive, we see there’s no need to actually panic because the security is very efficient with the most up-to-date x-rays where you don’t need to take anything out of your bag

Breeze through and get to plane gate with loads of time as it’s running late

Not too delayed upon arriving in Hobart, Tasmania, though – 3rd state of our trip ????

Hobart has a similar public transport situation between it’s airport and the city – Sky Bus is expensive here too!!

Get to the centre and walk a little to reach our bed for the night, at Alabama Hotel

It’s a lovely hostel-esque place with a hip bar; we freshen up briefly and get straight out to find some dinner

Unfortunately, Hobart is not looking the nicest place to be – we arrive and walk by a guy being taken down and held to the ground by 6 police officers within the first 30 mins…

Anyhoo, The Ganges is near to our place and has us for a couple of curries and naan bread to share

My goodness were these curries hot – Chicken Kolapuri and a Chicken Tikka Masala – that must be the case or we’re feeling poorly

After finishing what we could, we venture out to give the area a glance

First stop, the sea – it’s been a while since we’ve seen it properly and you can tell Dave missed it!

Lots of jazzy old boats here, at the Elizabeth Street Pier, and opportunities to sail on them too – expensive as a guest or free as a volunteer skipper!

We go South to find Princes Wharf No. 1, an events venue, as well as Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) which has one of its bad-ass boats to get you there!

Across the road from here are several restaurants, bars and some very English-style pubs

Behind those is the Salamanca Square – on Saturday’s, this hosts a famous market in Hobart so we’ll have to come back over the weekend another time to catch it

Back towards the centre, we find Parliament and it’s gardens

A couple streets up takes you to St. David’s Cathedral which is also hard to miss as they’re ringing it’s bells like crazy today!

Our wondering continues as we get to the venue of Farm Gate Market – another famous market, held on Sunday’s, which we’ll have to return for

This has nicely put us back to where we’re staying for the night

To our room we go to chill before bed
