Day 138 – Oh Dam! Oh Dam! Ohhh Dam!

If you get the title of this one then you are Cheddar! Better Holt on for another wild ride with Davesy

Another morning next to a lake with a coffee … but some not so great weather

We drive down to Gordons Dam and have a look from Knob Lookout

This massive reservoir was created by 4 dams to power the Gordon Hydroelectric Power Station

We head down the 196 steps to walk along the Dam and look down its massive height – but is weirdly very thin

The 196-step stairs down are definitely easier than steps up ????

Off to Mount Field National Park to see Russell Falls

Only a 25 minute return, with several other walks available too

We then drive back past Hobart and up to Mount Wellington – you can drive all the way to the summit over 1200m high!

So high we are between, not 1 but, 2 layers of cloud!

It’s 10 degrees colder up here so we warm up back in the car before driving onto Geeveston

Check in to Bear Went Over the Mountain: an old bank, now turned cafe and accommodation – very adorable and cool the owners live in the room that used to be the vault (with the vault door still there!)

The town is rather small and dead so we head back down the road to the Kermandie Hotel which has a restaurant, esperance, for dinner in an old shipwright overlooking the river

Two roast lamb dinners as it’s Sunday – but they were very tiny ????

Back to Geeveston, we walk off that “massive” dinner with some Platypus spotting along the Kermandie River

We see at least 2 – one has lovely belly scratches on a log, another comes nice and close; we spend almost an hour by the river bank just enjoying the platypus frolicking around us

We call it quits around 8:30pm and head to the hotel to warm up before bed
