Day 143 – Rarring for another roadtrip

So much chaos around our room, including late night shouting, public transport and chavvy-car behaviour ????

We even find out we’ve slept through a small earthquake last night!

We get ready with what low level of sleep we got and ran from The Great Southern Hotel… all the way to Krispy Kreme round the corner

Two coffee and donut combos, and one was free – first victory of the day ????

To the train station we make our way to Dandenong and eventually make it to the Sixt car rental

We’re starting our third roadtrip today with a plan of going to Adelaide (and dropping back off here as it’s cheaper!); we even got an upsell on arrival

In the car, we get out of Melbourne as quick as possible and get to Caldermeade Farm & Cafe

We go for a couple of scones, with some of their own cream, and a ham and cheese toastie, with their own cheese ????

In front of the cafe and bar, there’s a green area where you can look at some of their animals too, including Rabbits, Chickens, Goats, Highland Cows, Alpacas, Ducks, Geese and even Deer

Round the back is their milking shed which operates daily and has a viewing area

We’ve got some time to kill so stick around until it starts, at 2:30pm

Apparently, the cows quite enjoy the milking turntable and they’re getting rather ansy in the queue waiting to get on

Here are some facts about it all:

To the car, we finish the drive to Phillip Island – stopping to have a ramble around Newhaven Jetty

Nearby is Newhaven Boat Ramp where someone’s come in after a successful day of fishing and are filleting their catch – seems it’s frequented by some hungry mouths

We get on the pier soaking up the sun and sea air before spotting a giant Stingray!

In the car, we head to Cowes Jetty next

Cowes is the main town on Phillip Island with lots of little restaurants dotted about the place

There’s Cockatoos in trees, Seagulls bobbing in the water and lots of trying fisherman on the end of the jetty

Back into the town, we pop to Coles for some supplies while passing some Rabbits frolicking on the greenery surrounding the oldest public building used here: St. Philip’s Anglican Church

We check in at Apartments at Glen Isla, drop our stuff and head back out for dinner at Cowes Curry Club

Unassuming place along the main street and delivered some yummy curries!

Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Jalfrazi, garlic naan and two Kingfishers

Stuffed, we get onto the last place for sightseeing today: The Nobbies

This is a wildlife preservation centre at the Western edge of the island where wildlife is literally everywhere – we’re ambushed (pardon the pun) by several Wallabies and Geese en route to even find somewhere to park!

After leaving the car, we see The Nobbies from the edge of the island – it’s a formation made from the sea and a place where Little Penguins are notorious for roosting

They have a little boardwalk and we stroll around as the sun goes down when the juveniles get hangry and start ruckusing loudly!

At 8:30ish/post-sunset, we were escorted off by a National Park person as the road closes because all the animals come out of hiding in the dark

We made it back to the apartment very slowly as we got to see a fair few of these animals and we called it a night
