This hotel, sadly, has no kettle available to us so we get ready speedily and pop to Mitchell’s Bakery and Café for a caffeine hit
We take it by the sea to enjoy

There’s a strong smell of sulphur so we get on back to the car to start our day
At the top of Kingston SE is The Big Lobster: a fish and chippery with the gimmick of a giant statue of a Lobster out front – we, of course, have to stop ourselves

On the road, we’re driving along Princes Highway, or Highway 1, which Dave’s found out is actually an incredibly long highway – actually 36% of the Earth’s circumference in length (if it was laid out flat)

We make it to Salt Creek as they have a Replica of Oil Rig – unfortunately, it’s actually been blown over in the recent burst of extreme wind a couple days ago

It commemorates the contribution that the oil industry has added to the development of South Australia and is located in Salt Creek as this is where oil was first drilled, in 1866
We grab a couple of coffees from the little cafe next to it before getting back on the road
The drive has a lot of areas where the smell of sulphur sticks around as we go past many a salt flat as well as having The Coorong, a long stretching saltwater lagoon, along our left
We pass Pink Lake – supposedly pink but it’s dried up at the moment
Time for a little stop off at a service station where they have Wokinabox

We share a chicken pad Thai and then make it to Wellington East where they have a free, 24-hour running ferry over the Murray River
It takes waiting for two goes but we eventually make it over

Driving through vineyard region are vineyard region, we make it to Victor Harbour
Here, they have a horse-drawn tramway bridge connection to Granite Island which hosts wildlife, including a Little Penguin colony – we cross over on foot to explore

It’s a bit early for the Penguins to be out and about but it’s pretty and nice to wonder with the fresh sea air
We work our way round the East side of the island, including to the top to get a lookout over the waves crashing on the South East side, all while keeping an eye out for Penguins

Back to the car, we drive the last segment today to our hotel in Adelaide: Nightcap by Empire Hotel
Just before entering Adelaide, it seems there’s a plague of flocking Cockatoos – fingers crossed they’re not around our hotel as they’re incredibly noisy buggers!
The traffic is pretty bad but we make it having completed a 371km drive in about 5 hours, sorta by accident – we’re most definitely pooped
We park up, check in, get some free drinks tokens for the hotel bar and get our stuff in our room before heading straight to a restaurant across the road: Saigon Gate Cuisine

We order a bargain feast of satay chicken, sweet & sour chicken with noodles and a very fresh chicken vermicelli bowl – delish ????
Back to the hotel, we stick on a film before bed
