Day 167 – Feelin’ hot hot hot

Not the best night’s sleep but we move on to important recovery with a lush offering of breakfast from the Air BnB – toast, homemade jams, cereal, coffee, etc.

Head out and make a start revisiting Malanda Falls

They have a visitor centre which has a lot of detailed info about the landscape and animals that call it home

Even have an area dedicated to the volcanic veins of this region

We take a stroll through the other side today, the Malanda Falls Conservation Park

It does a loop of the forest which is home to many a Tree Kangaroo, apparently

We stop to spot lots of turtles in the water – at least 8 surface at any one time!

Keep going and we catch a very quick but legitimate glance of the elusive Platypus ???? no photo evidence but very exciting to see our first Queensland one!

Keep following the path, dodging spider webs as we go, and don’t get lucky with any Roo sightings sadly

Back to the Falls to get a view of them

Dave even spots a Pademelon in the bushes after taking a bathroom break!

Time to move on so we drive a little to Mount Hypipamee Crater and make some lunch

We do the circular route around this national park with the first stop at the crater itself

It’s pretty deep and we play a little as it’s echo-y

Continuing on, we keep our eyes to the sky for any of these Roos and reach Dinner Falls

We’ve not been very lucky with sightings this time

Next, we make our way to our stay for the night

Innot Hot Springs Caravan and Leisure Park has a standard room for us and we realise there’s not much around here for dinner so we pop back in the car to a place we drove through to get here, with the closest supermarket

Ravenshoe is apparently the Possum capital of the world and the highest point of Queensland

We stock up in the only open supermarket here and then stroll around

Pop to the highest pub in Queensland, the Ravenshoe Hotel, which also has a bottle shop where we grab a little treat to go with dinner

A little fill up with fuel before driving back to Innot Hot Springs

We take a dip in all but one of their hot pools warmed by the local thermal creek (the last one was above 45° and Davesy like to keep their skin on their bones!)

After a shower, Daisy gets on with dinner – takes her a fair amount of time with all the faff but Dave claims it was worth it

Butter chicken curry with some additional fresh veggies and a kick, some garlic naan and a couple of VBs

Suffering with not too much sleep, we stew the rest of the night watching Transformers on the telly using Dave’s personal hotspot to power the TV ????

Occasionally, we exit to use the external bathrooms and the grass is covered in Toads and walls with Geckos – we even have one of the latter join us in our room all night as we couldn’t coax him out ????
