Day 18 – Cro-a-chillin

Rude awakenings from the flat opposite being refubished, local bin collection and mozzies in the night – poor Dave πŸ™

Coffee in bed

Check on the washing and Daisy gets pricked by a cactus!

Showered and out the door to hunt for a decent coffee

Cross the Gradski Most (bridge) for a coffee by the marina

Hunger strikes so we find a little burger bar with decent prices!

Papica Burger Bar with 90s action film theme

One spicy and one with pineapples – they were nice tasting but definitely let down by the patties. Unfortunately, they were from frozen so had to be cooked all the way through opposed to pink

In need to organise the next part of our trip so popped back to one of the original coffee spots for a pint in the shade by the sea

Head back to the centre of Zadar to stroll around some remaining sites.

5 well square, gardens, round the wall to the tat-market near the Sea Organ and Roman Forum

Back to hotel to pack for leaving tomorrow and a little change for the cooler evening

Pint at Caffe Bar Forum before walking tour

Meet at Roman Pillar for the tour, on “Croatian time” as the guide said being a tad late; “what you can do today, you can also do tomorrow” ????

Start at the Roman Pillar marking the entrance to Zadar and followed up to the park to see the walls that kept the Ottoman empire at bay!

Also shows the only UNESCO site in Zadar (the wall on the right and an archway out of view)

We see some of the old buildings from the various centuries mixed in with some crappy modern ones thanks to World War II virtually destroying the entire city for seemingly no reason – conspiracies aplenty!

Down to the Roman Forum again to hear that it’s the largest on the Adriatic ironically only revealed because the bombings destroyed all the buildings on top of the ruins

End the tour on the sea front where the city wall was torn down to reveal the sea and bring nature back to the people; even Alfred Hitchcock said how beautiful it was in 1964!

We see the Sea Organ and Sun Salutation (Greeting to the Sun) again though it’s overshadowed is by a stupid big cruise ship – glad we were here before it arrived!

Off for a well earned pizza and some glasses of vino ????????

After we walk about until we stumble on the buzzing nightlife of a little street behind the SE city wall

Grab two pints of Paulaner, naturally

Head back for sleeps before our venture tomorrow
