Day 208 – Thank goodness for Cat Ba

The hotel was almost perfect – shame the other guests don’t need sleep, causing rawkus almost every hour from 6am! We did manage a better sleep than we have the last several days before though ????

We have a couple coffees in the room with some Brooklyn Nine-Nine on the telly doing about an hour’s worth of work before checking out

A Grab back to Tuần Châu-Cát Bà ferry and we quickly purchase a ticket, an egg bahn mi for each of us and board

The ferry takes almost 1.5 hours and drops you off on the North of the island; onboard, we buy a 3n1 coffee to keep us going

We get talking to a couple of Brits travelling Vietnam Top Gear style and share stories of our time in Vietnam so far

The views of the limestone islands are better as we traverse through them on the water

As we arrive, there’s a bus awaiting us that we bought with the ferry tickets cheaply and takes us to the South, where the main town is, about 30 minutes

Our hotel is a short 300 metre stint from the drop off and we’re welcomed with an abundance of friendliness and information about the island

We drop our stuff off and head out to grab another lunch at The Little Leaf: a crepe waffle with banana and mango, a banana and honey pancake along with less than £1 pints

After, we have a nose at the local tour operators to get an idea of a plan for the next following days and then head back to the hotel to grab our swimmers

It’s only a 10 minute walk to Cat Co 1 Beach – we arrive and find it’s on the edge of a fancy-pants hotel but they do offer lockers and showers, etc.

We’re in battling the waves for a good 45 minutes before needing some water – it was rather nippy too!

Next, we make our way back to the centre of town to book a tour for tomorrow and then off to the hotel where we shower, do some work and then head out for some dinner

We spotted a place earlier, Oasis Bar, and make our way straight there

A chicken pad Thai, a beef vermicelli salad and two half price (£2!) cocktails

We’re a little hungry still after that so have a cheesy garlic bread to share also

The beer they have here is on happy hour every day in certain hours where you get the local draft for half price, at 30p rather than 60p!!

Finally, we spot the pool table here is free so go for a couple games

Time to head home; it’s a short walk and we get to bed with some Big Bang on the telly first
