Day 262 – It’s Temple Thai-m

A bit of a late start, we grab a couple of cappuccinos from Café PaMa (downstairs)

We get a Grab taxi over to Pad Thai Kratong Thong for some lunch

Turns out, Dave’s put in the wrong address and we end up outside Baan ThaTien – so, we stroll around the block, past the outside of Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan and the Reclining Buddha (see the featured image), to the planned restaurant

It doesn’t look as good so we stroll back – maybe Dave got the wrong address on purpose ????

A Pad Thai and sharing portion of green curry of course with a freshly squeezed orange juice – all for under £6 ????

After lunch, we start our day of sightseeing; as we were here only last year, we have seen a lot but have bits we missed to keep ourselves busy

First stop we’re aiming for is the Pak Khlong Talat (Flower Market) but en route we find a street food market where people are even offering bugs!

We head through one market hall and make a left, past a shrine, that takes you into the heart of the flower market

Avoiding the many people moving goods and motorbikes passing by, we get to the other side and take steps to get onto the Phra Phutthayotfa Bridge, which also hosts the monument of King Rama I

We take the bridge over and duck into a place of worship with a replica of Khao Mo Mountain

The waters surrounding the replica have many a Terrapin!

The other end of this place gives an entrance to Wat Prayurawongsawat Worawihan

This temple complex is different to what we’ve typically seen before as it’s whitewashed all over, including the stupa

This area has many schools which all seem to be finishing for the day so we continue onto our next stop: Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan

We find the entrance to the Thai military first and are quickly told not to enter this way ????

The entry fee is about £4 and the whole place is intricately dressed

We wander around, avoiding ruining as many photos as possible, and realise there’s a ferry port at the back so that’ll be our way out of here after

Part of the complex has Phaya Yak Wat Chaeng which has a golden Buddha people are visiting

After this, we make our way to the ferry port and get a 30 baht single ticket each for the boat

The ride takes us past many landmarks, including Holy Rosary Church and ICONSIAM shopping mall

We get off at Asiatique which is home to the Asiatique night market; it’s still surprising hot so we pop into Nava6 for a drink and adorably tiny snack

Following this, we have a look around the area including the ferris wheel – which is the largest in Thailand, at 60 metres – before feeling hungry

With pizza on the brain, we find a restaurant we’re both happy with and book a Grab taxi – there seems to be an exceptional amount of traffic at the moment as the 15km to the place is expected to take 40 mins!

After passing Rama IX Bridge and Benchakitti Park, we make it to Vesuvio

We share a margarita and a diavola pizza as well as a couple of Singha draught beers

Next, we’re by the notable street of Soi Sukhumvit 11 so figure we might as well check it out

Sadly, it’s a bit disappointing as there’s many people selling drugs and, what look to be, stolen Rolex watches (as the street has several four and five star hotels on it) so we head back to our little area

We chill in The Brew House with a couple of draught Changs as they have some live music

After these are done, we get a Grab home and get some rest
