A leisurely wake up at about 9am; a better sleep for sure – one of the quietest sleeps we’ve had in many months – but it’s going to take a few to get over this tiredness ????
We have a couple of coffees and the left overs of pizza from last night while waiting for a couple loads of laundry to finish followed by a shower and we’re out the door
Behind the residential area we’re staying in is Jordalparken which we walk through to then find a nice spot for cappuccino for our walk: Fuglen Coffee Roasters
They are a cafe and bar, with one local pilsner on tap, as well as having a machine in the back grinding the coffee beans incredibly fresh

With these, we head to a park hosting Gamlebyen graveyard which has a quaint looking church
This leads us to the centre of Old Town Oslo – this has some historic buildings, including an old hospital, it’s restaurant and Old Church dating back to around the 1930s

Around the corner from here is a large ridge that is where Ekebergparken is and offers a scenic walk, called the Mesolithic Climb, which takes you through the history of the area and the various sea levels over thousands of years
One of the viewpoints is named Munchpunktet and is in honour of the Norwegian artist Munch with some information about his work, the Scream in particular
This artwork was based around his emotions and experiences in this area; in 2013, a female artist honoured Munch in her own way with a photograph depicting a similar characteristic to the painting which you can recreate in this location – we had a punt at it ????

The park is also home to a multitude of sculptures; we keep going up and find one called Klang which has numerous screens with moving images and making noises
This is just above the Olso Viewpoint, listed on Google Maps

Just a tad further up is another sculpture called the Ace of Diamonds – it moves and everything!
From here, we head down and end up doing a sort of loop
We wander down and around to find Tenerife Lake which has Mariakirkens ruins on it’s East side

Into the Bjørvika area, we find the waterfront which has MUNCH Museum and the Oslo Opera House in addition to many floating sauna houses and even a sort of beach
We’re starting to get peckish now so make our way to an option we think will be cheap

Subway has apparently started a new menu in Norway where the customisation is removed but we figure we go for it – we share a footlong creamy chicken and bacon sub
A few streets from here is the Oslo Cathedral which has a flower market open on the square out front of it
From here, Karl Johans street is very close – this is one of Oslo’s central street that has Central Station at one end and the Royal Palace at the other

We zig zag across it seeing Norwegian Parliament and University Square before reaching the Karl Johan monument in front of the palace building – it even has a guard out front
Then, we go back a little bit to see the National Theatre – Karl Johans street is also home to the theatre district which seems to have been Henrik Ibsen’s, playwright and theatre director also known as “the father of realism”, playground in the 1800s

It’s a short walk from here to Oslo City Hall and by the waterfront
Here, there’s the Nobel Peace Center and the National Museum as well as a converted industrial complex now hospitality area
On the waterfront, there are many ferry stops and companies selling fjord tours so we investigate ourselves for tomorrow
It’s very beautiful from here to see the water and islands; Dave notices some Eider Ducks and there’s so many babies, it’s too many to count!

Further on around the harbour, they have many boats docked including the Christian Radich
Basically above us is Akershus Fortress but you can’t get to it from here so we go back a little and go around
It’s free to go in and look around; the grounds have many cannons and buildings including the Akershus Castle Chapel

Feeling pretty knackered, as we’re still recovering from travelling, we then make our way to do a bit of shopping
We saw IKEA earlier so pop there to grab their iconic gravy, go to a supermarket to pick up some other dinner and breakfast supplies and then catch the train to our Airbnb’s area

Dinner is Norwegian meatballs with veg and potatoes and the gravy ????
It’s so bizarre that, no matter how late it’s getting, the sun just isn’t going down – sunset is after 10:30pm and sunrise is just before 4am
We call it a night and get some rest after that
