Day 269 – A hoppy day in Riga

After a coffee and some work, we are up and out

Our first stop is around the corner at Kafejnīca “Riga crepes” for a couple of crepes for lunch – its chaotic in here as they do a really cheap lunch and beetroot soup for less than a fiver

We opt for a maple syrup pancake and a apple and caramel pancake with added bananas; they have squash which you can help yourself to as well

Service is a bit slow and their are some language barriers, but it does us ????

Next, we grab the number 3 bus to just the top of the centre

Here is the Freedom Monument which seems to be having a small military procession on

It’s around the canal which has the Love Bridge filled with padlocks

We wander towards the centre where we find the Powder Tower, a museum within an old fortification tower, and then the Cat House, which is a building with two cat sculptures on top

From here, we pop to Tirgonu Darzs to use the facilities and have a beer each – it would be rude not to!

Then, we make our way towards Our Lady of Sorrows Church passing Riga Cathedral and St. Saviour’s Anglican Church

By here is also Riga Castle – you have to pre-book way in advance if you’d like to see inside as it’s not readily open to the public

There were half mast Latvian flags as well as several guards

Not far is a good viewpoint of Vanšu Bridge as well as Stargorod Riga – Czech Brewery

We go in here and have 750mls each of the larger they brew while feeding the birds

After, we head back to Dome Square and go to a recommendation we got from the host of our Airbnb: Cuba Cafe

They have a BOGOF deal on cocktails and their speciality is mojitos so, again, it would be rude not to (see the featured image)!

Getting hungry, we go to Easy Wine and have a diavola and an arugula (rocket) pizza as well as a bottle of prosecco

We then head back and get some rest!
