Day 25 – The train to Sarajevo

Wake up and prep for check out (thankfully at 11am) – our place allows us to stow some bags as we’ve got most of the day before we leave town

Off in search for some breakfast – we find Kaldrma Restoran. Dave orders the Bosnian coffee straight off the bat

We are shown how to consume: you scoop “the good stuff” into the little cup and then pour over the rest of some very strong coffee! You’re treated to a Turkish delight to nibble to offset the bitterness – like true locals!

A couple of classic omelettes (with sour cream of course) a good start to the day

“Classic omelette” is eggs, edam and turkey ham

Wander around to the coffee place next to the mosque: Fabrika coffee

Continue, post-caffeinated, to get cake and smoothies on our way to the Partisan Memorial Cemetery, at Aldi (not the supermarket!)

Vandalised and broken but still good views… Tito (Yugoslav 2.0 leader) built it commemorating the lives of 700 anti-facists/Nazi resistance fighters

Dave notices it points directly at Belgrade, Serbia; the 3 times it has been vandalised make sense why it’s not very favourable with the locals…

Dave also discovers that Mostar is actually a capital… it’s the capital city of Herzegovina and then Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia!

Wonder to the train station, terrible for any info but just join everyone just chilling off the side of the platform and even on the railway tracks – naturally

Train to Sarajevo (make sure to sit on the right) – some spectacular views as you wind through mountain passes, following the river then on up into the mountains – seeing dams and villages and forts and mountain tops and long tunnels

View out the window of the train towards Mostar

Arrive in Sarajevo, the railway station slightly out of town – but they are building a tram line to connect it – just isn’t finished yet!

Walk and stop off in the shopping mall and pop to the self-service restaurant, Vapiano

Pollo piccante with linguine curry chicken with tagliatelle

After food catch the tram to the apartment (can buy the ticket on tram for 1.80bam) and it seems they only really have 1 tram line going along and the trams run every 4 mins – so a good easy option

Host needed cash on arrival, so we had to run to cashpoint – £6 to take out cash! Shoddy! Was only £5 in Mostar ????
