Day 355 – Meeting Kiwi family

A slow morning

We leave the apartment after midday and head to The Fiddler

One of the sad things we’ve found is that New Zealand doesn’t seem to offer pints; instead, they just name them as such but actually only serve around 425ml!

However, Dave discovered that this Irish pub is one of the few serving actual pints (probably because they could only get pint Guinness glasses!)

The place has a rooftop area where you get a close up view of the Sky Tower and some poor souls doing the Sky Jump (at over £100 per pop!) ????

Following this, we head over to the Viaduct Harbour as we’re meeting some people here; Daisy has family who live here and we’ve organised to meet up at one of the bars here: Dr Rudi’s

We have a drink and share some food here – chips and chicken nibbles – and catch up (see the featured image)

We learn that the building our apartment is in was actually originally the largest department store in New Zealand, Farmers, built back in 1914

From 1934, it even had its own pet – an Australian sulphur-crested cockatoo! – but it closed down in 1992

After a couple hours, we let them get back home and we have a stroll around to find Provedor

They have the best happy hour prices we’ve seen: $20 for a 1.8L!

Getting sleepy, we wander back via Woolworths for some dinner as well as Liquorland

We have a beef pie for dinner tonight with some homemade chips, veggies and a glass of NZ sauvignon blanc

Time for bed
