Day 374 – Lookout Victoria!

We get the breakfast included in our stay at this B&B – toast and Coco Pops

After, we get ready for the day and head out to Som’s Coffee, a coffee stand randomly at the back of a car dealership

With caffeine in hand, we head up Majoribanks Street to enter the park for Mount Victoria

The walks very steep but the views at the top are well worth it – we can even see Evans Bay and Wellington International Airport

We take a different path down which includes a children’s slide to get down – we obviously use it ourselves ????

Down through the bush, we find the place labelled on Google Maps as the Hobbit’s Hideaway which was a film location for LotR

Making it out of the park, we head through the city to Custom House for coffee

After, we pop by to New World Metro Willis Street for a chicken and chips box each and some jalapeno cheese to eat on the waterfront

We walk along the waterfront soaking up the sunshine before getting to the Wellington Cable Car (a funicular) station where we get a one-way ticket up to the top, at Kelburn

There’s a museum about the history of this cable car – Wellington was the fastest growing NZ city in the 1890s and was suffering with a lack of housing which this tramway was created to assist

History of this transport line includes that the original service car served 76 years before being retired and the first lady team driver in 1979 worked here

Around the back of the museum is the entry to Wellington Botanic Garden; we walk up to see the Krupp Gun and observatory before strolling one of the paths through the various themed gardens

We get down to the north side of the city and get a view of the Beehive, which is a 1960s designed building housing Prime Ministerial and cabinet offices

Feeling pretty knackered, we have a break at the Crab Shack for a cheeky happy hour – it’s really getting busy around this area in the early eve of Friday!

Next, we have a pit stop at Heartbreaker Restaurant and Bar for another cheap happy hour before checking out Eva Pub – which we spotted had a jug and pizza deal for $30 – but the pizza looked sad, so two bad glasses of wine in their happy hour and on we move on to The Grand

Here, we’re just in time to catch the two steaks on volcanic rocks for $40 as well as a couple Heineken pints

After, we have a couple rounds at Minibar and then one alcoholic ginger beer jug at The Bridge before picking up a Domino’s pizza and getting to bed
