Day 381 – Mount Maunganui

Two bowls of cereal each for breakfast as well as Dave making lunch before we check out – we’re going to miss this place!

It’s not too long in the car to make it to Mount Maunganui – both the mountain and the town just beneath it – but it seems everyone else has the same idea, with it being a lovely day and the spring holidays

We eventually find a parking spot and stroll to the Main Beach and find Montoriki Reserve

There’s a path to take you to the tip of this nature reserve where you get nice views of the mount, the beach and the vast sea

Then, we walk to the start of the Te Tihi o Mauao (Summit of Mount Maunganui) walk – the most direct route is 1.3 km

It takes us about 25 minutes to get up one way – most definitely a longer time for the way up – and the view is really nice

We have the pre-prepared sandwiches Dave made for us and then get back down again

To cool off a little, we have a play in the water of the Main Beach

We return to the car and drive to Rotorua, with some traffic jams along the way

Like last time, we’re staying at Haka House because they can provide us a letter showing proof of address we need to attain a bank account

A quick freshen up and we get out to the Pig & Whistle’s happy hour for a couple rounds

Have a nose down Eat Streat to see if there are any dinner deals – to no avail so pop to Nando’s

Whole chicken with hot sauce accompanied by large chips and garlic bread

Back to Haka House for a chill before bed
