Day 36 – They’rrrre Crete!

Early bird catches the worm, or should we say the train whenever it comes!

Up and about with a quick shower, coffee and last minute pack to the metro

Hop off the metro to change line… and grab a maccies while we’re at it ????

Two sausage and egg mcmuffins and terrible cappuccinos

Back on the metro and our train terminates a few stops to early – have to wait better half of half an hour for an airport train!

En route, children are on the train playing instruments to get spare change

The Athenians are not shy of putting children to work

Thankfully, were flying domestically so don’t need to go through passport control so have plenty of time to wait for the plane ????

Boarded, up in the air and down in no time

Out and eventually find the bus station – note: buy tickets from the driver if you’re only doing 1 trip rather than paying extra for the whole day

Arrive and wonder round with time to kill before check in at our lodgings here

Street Project TILIXTO looks perfect with some cheap but hefty eats

Two chicken skewers in traditional Greek pitas – all with lovely customer service ????

Fed, we move on and nose to see if there’s any options for a boat trip or swimming

We can check in! Daisy booked us a semi-basement (?) but it does seem nice (other than the lack of shower curtain)

Post-freshening up, we head out to the long pier/sea wall to the Heraklion Lighthouse

Unfortunately, they’ve closed it up from the The Mermaid (a metal art installation)

But the murals are pretty

Back and look around the marina for another shot at a trip and head for a sit down – Paralia for some house wine ???? and great advice on where to go, tomorrow, from the waiter

Go into the centre again as it’s time for some dinner – can’t not go for somewhere that had the sign “best in town” outside!

Pork gyros pizza and caesar salad to share

Wonder around after to find a nightcap but Wednesday doesn’t seem to be Heraklion’s day, though we do find a new area and sit at Mosaiko for a couple of cocktails

AND they have snicky-snacks – normal and healthy! ????

Off elsewhere as we know we can get a better price… not too busy in the centre so we head somewhere Dave finds – Stone Project

Seriously cool venue, cassettes in the bar, perfume in the toilets, very well dressed and playlist to suit! Shame it’s not busy but turns out the Cretans are stiklers for their work as it doesn’t get busy here until 11pm (the place stays open till 2am tonight, 6am Friday and Saturday!)

Downstairs is cool as well and they do big bowl of popcorn as snicky-snacks per round!

Pretty dead so we meander around and start to head home… though turn our attention as there are some very jazzy lights in a place, we wonder in – seems La Brasserie have a Salsa night on Wednesday – free salsa lesson? Sure why not!

After our workout, we head towards home where Daisy makes a doggo acquaintance, she calls Jeffery
