We finalise some accommodation admin with coffee before getting ready and heading out along the route we came yesterday

Twizel has The Musterers Hut Cafe which sorts us breakfast as well as a snack for later in the day
We make a start of our day and head to The Peace Ring / Pelennor Fields – on arrival, we find it’s $10 entry per person so decide against and instead grab some nice pictures of the landscape and nearby canal

It’s about an hour’s drive towards Aoraki / Mount Cook so make our way, passing a high speed collision – be safe on these roads!
Along the route are lovely views of the mountain (see the featured image; we arrive at the parking situation and struggle a little to find a spot but eventually do after about 10 mins – we set off on the Hooker Valley trail
Sadly, it’s a little packed with other people having a similar plan to us but we manage not to have too crowded a walk and we reach the Hooker Lake which is the base of the glacier on Mount Cook

There are clouds covering the mountain this close up but it still is very humbling; we share a pie we picked up in Twizel and then make a start back
Along the route, we also share a scone we grabbed from Twizel and enjoy the multiple swing bridges on this tramping (hiking) route

The walk takes us a total of just over 2.5 hours and then we have to grab a small amount of fuel before popping to the Tasman Glacier nearby
It’s a very short but steep walk to get up and a view of the Tasman Lake and edge of the glacier

After, we decide to make our way back as it’s over a 100km back; it takes us about 1.5 hours and we arrive just in time for the end of happy hour at the pub we’re staying at
We enjoy two and then get some dinner too

A “build your own burger” and chicken schnitty
They also have free pool on today so have a play – we’re very out of practice but Dave, of course, thrashes Daisy!
