Day 489 – The bus to Battambang

Up to check out followed by getting a small breakfast and coffee from 7/11 and Amazon Café

We’ve organised a big transport today so we start getting a lift to the ferry port just before 9 am, and get a ferry over to the mainland

Here, we are told to sit tight and wait for further instruction while loads of other buses leave for various other locations

About two hours later, minibuses are sorted for us and collect people going on our route

On this route, we are provided a little snack each of egg and onion sandwiches as well as having a brief stop to get a coffee and honey lemon soda, at Punthai Coffee (กาแฟพันธุ์ไทย สาขา PT มะขาม2)

We are on the road again for another hour to arrive at Ban Pakkad Border Checkpoint… this isn’t the border point we’ve expected

It’s easy enough to get out of Thailand (see the featured image) but not so easy entering Cambodia: we’ve sorted e-visas in prep for the journey but this port does not accept these so we have to repurchase visas

Thankfully, a lady travelling with us is kind enough to help us out with some cash!

Oh well… once sorted, we are put onto a big bus and taken almost two hours to Battambang

We arrive, grab some cash to pay a nice lady back who helped us cover the visa cost and get to our hotel: Moloppor Villa Battambang

A shower is a treat as well as dropping our bags before heading back into the town

We get a tuk tuk for less than a pound and get dropped part way along Pub Street to find there is a funeral event set up in the middle of the street

We politely pass by and reach Pomme Hostel, Bar & Restaurant to find the lady who helped us earlier

The menu is so cheap, we decide to settle here to eat

Chicken fajitas for Dave and chicken amok curry for Daisy as well as a jug of beer

We also have a cocktail, exchange travel stories and book a tour for tomorrow before calling it a night

We walk a little by the waterfront and then grab another cheap tuk tuk to the hotel
