We’re up, out and heading to grab some supplies from New World, get a coffee from Pedro’s Gelato & Coffee as well as refueling before getting on the road
About half way of the drive, we have a break at Waiau to grab a coffee, from Brenda’s on Lyndon, and make some chicken sandwiches while we wander around the historic buildings of the town
It’s about an hour until we get into Hanmer Springs where we get checked into our motel
We have a brief change and walk into the centre among the redwood trees and to Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools

It’s $40 per person and we get stuck into testing the variety of hot pools they have: aqua therapy and the many mineral rock pools containing anything from sulphur to sillica
The original gasometer is on show which operated from 1898 – 1940 and is complimented with a diagram of how it worked

The place has adult only pools but also a section at the back with a kids pools, a pool with swim lanes, a lazy river and even some slides – we have a few goes at the big kid ones
After just over two hours, we’ve covered everything here and get back to the motel for a couple hours to do some admin

Getting hungry, we walk back into town for dinner and find a street of where we call home in the UK!
As well as this, there’s lots of street art – we particularly loved the native NZ bird mural (see the featured image)

There’s a pretty decent meal deal to suit us both, at Monteith’s Brewery Bar – two 1/2 kilo steaks on mash with a drink for $30 each ????
Not quite full, we wander around the town a bit more and stumble on Saints Cafe, Restaurant & Bar – we get a jug of Export beer to share

After this, we’re pretty tired so head back and watch some of Bourne Identity before bed
