Up and out heading to circular quay to get a good vantage point – make it to the east quay but alas the opera house, botanical gardens and many other spots are already full and blocked off – it’s only 11:30am!!!!
So many idiots with suitcases just sitting in the paths, it’s mayhem … yet seemingly still more organised than Singapore was last year ????
We duck into Searock Grill for some fish and chips and a pint to chill – but they close at 2, reopen at 6 with a set menu – only £350 each!! Maybe not for us ????

Head for a quick walk and it’s getting mental towards the entry, so we duck into wahlburgers (yep mark wahlberg has his own burger restaurant!) for a mega pint of wahlbrewski – it’s not the best, but is only like £6 for a massive pint
We chill in wahlburgers for the afternoon keeping an eye on https://www.sydneynewyearseve.com/ updates showing each vantage point across the city get full and close off, it’s only mid afternoon and already the entire harbour, quay, gardens and islands are full and closed! People have actually been camping all night long for the best spots, so if you want a good spot make sure you get here before like 10am!

Enjoy some beers, wait an hour for a coffee, wahlburgers closes at 5:30 for a private event – at least it’s only 300 dollars for this one tho!
A few mess ups with the ordering system gets us a couple of free wines!
Out into the world’s longest queue for a toilet ever – think a few city blocks worth of queuing.. or cut the corner through a sea of people sprawled over the floor… this is more like the disorganised chaos with we’re expecting!
The Americans we were chatting to run off for their hotel the other side of the harbour bridge but does have a rooftop so a gamble but they are going for it!
They may have made the right call tho, the east quay is turning into a dystopian mess – toilet spots are being traded for drugs, the streets run yellow with pee, society is breaking down … and it’s still 6 hours till midnight!

Daisy makes the call to break through the metal fencing pinning in the crowds to try the toilets on the other side, crowds swarm around the hole she made – it’s a battle for survival now
We decide we don’t want to live without toilet security so cough up the 300 bucks for a spot at the party in the wahlburgers! Just have to kill an hour and we are home free! Hang out in the ghetto for a while, battling many a righteous chair warrior to get past through anywhere – a spot of rain panics the masses
A steam boat toots around the harbour – the Aboriginal smoke ceremony… though was lacking in some smoke

Night falls and a parade of lit up boats circle the harbour with the harbour bridge lit up in matching blue colours with plenty of aboriginal flags on display
We head to wahlburgers…
Some epic 9pm fireworks light up the harbour with a light show from the bridge – already puts London fireworks to shame, and this is the warm up!
Finally civilisation again! Though whalburgers is chaos – they seem to have removed a lot of the tables to make a dance floor so the piles of tables are tossed and fought over hard!
Order starts to return with the wine and canapés and burgers flowing, we make friends with a lovely American/NZ couple and natter the night away
Head out for the awesome fireworks display, they definitely go hard here – 12 minutes of non stop awesomeness coming at you from every single direction
Back to whalburgers for the champagne and more wine and dancing before finally heading back – chatting to some French peeps heading for a beach on along the way
