Start the day with a bit of a drive through Stratford upon Avon (there’s two!) and briefly go into Sale to pick up supplies (we were hoping something might be on sale here ????)
Coffee stop at Raymond Cafe for a flat white and a cappuccino

Back on the road for a while towards Tarra Bulga
We even come past some rogue goats – they ran right in front of the car for a while, which was funny ????
En route, the road gets rather questionable as we drive on a gravelled dirt track, for almost 20km, on the “scenic toursit route 94” past a place called Carrajung, where they appear to do a lot of logging
Out of the blue, Dave spots something spiky out the window: it’s an Echidna!!

Beautiful, little thing is hiding under a Christmas tree-like fur of the remaining vegetation that’s in the logged area – what a tree-mendous spot ????
We leave him be as we have places to be – and he’s not being very sociable, which is fair enough
A bit longer in the car and we arrive into Tarra Bulga National Park, though the place we were aiming for is closed
Round the corner is the Visitor Centre though so we park up and form lunch out of some of the supplies we gathered earlier
Almost sorted, we get a couple of guests to join us: a pair of King Parrots who are certainly not shy and but bold and greedy ????
With whatever we can have that remains from the food thievery, we get to the main event here: Fern Gully Trek
There’s a couple walking tracks around here which we work into our wondering and they even have a little suspension bridge in the midst of the rainforest: Corrigan Suspension Bridge

We make it back to the car,as thetracks make a nice, little loop of the area, and head onwards
A little down the road is Tarra Falls

A longer haul in the car but we then make it to the entrance of Wilson’s Promontory
Here, we cut off just before into a little campsite for a wonder
We reach the Dunes of the Big Drift in about a 25 minute ramble

Seems Dunes and Sand Plains cover much of the coastal regions of Victoria’s Southern Uplands, this is just our first encounter
We can’t stay up here long, the winds are blowing pretty heftily and the sand hits hard!
Back to the car, we go through the entrance – it’s free in this National Park to have a day visit – and drive about half way down the outlet of land to Squeaky Beach
This is not the first Quartz sand beach we’ve come across but it is obvious to it’s claim to fame here, as well as the sand being stunningly white

Again, the wind is very strong so we swiftly move on
Have a little stop around Darby River to see if we can spot any Platypus with Dave’s lucky eyes today – no luck
Not far until we park up and venture into the park’s vegetation at Wilsons Prom Wildlife Walk
We’ve come at the end of the day; the sun’s due to set in just over an hour so we walk the plains
Here, we’re supposed to be able to see Wombats – even the listing on Google Maps has them in the description so it’s a must that they live here
First of all, we get a glance at a couple Roos – the Grey Eastern Kangaroos are being monitored in the area to learn more about them

Then we get to the farthest reach of this walk and stumble upon the most amount of this animal we’ve ever seen in one place!
There’s even an adorable and rather excited little Joey who’s enjoying the attention and hopping like a maniac ????

It’s getting late and we realise we need to get a move on as dinner will be an issue at the place we’re staying if we don’t start heading that way soon…
On the way back to the car, we kind of get lost – and there’s next to no signal out here – though continue to go with a route we think will take us back
Unbelievably, another out of the blue moment happens as Dave stops and hears a rustling: it’s a Wombat!!

A true delight as we get the honour of accompanying this little one’s first meal of the day – not bothered by us at all – and of course go crazy with photos enjoying the moment
It’s time to move, we leave it be and dash for the car – a half an hour drive to Fish Creek where we stay at the Fish Creek Hotel
We are the last to have a meal here – little bit pricey but a lot for your money, which is nice: a chicken Parma and a chicken schnitty

Time for bed!
