Well, we managed to get a solid couple of hours sleep at the Swansea Backpackers – would not recommend…
We enjoy some leftover pizza in the communal area watching Aus day ceremonies on tv
Then we head out to Cake & Honey for some large flat whites – regretting having breakfast a tad as they have a good selection of baked bits which look nommy… next time ????
Set off for Freycinet national park to see Wineglass Bay ????
A lovely drive through the park, we park up and start our ascent up to the Wingelass Bay Lookout Trail – all very well paved with steps so not too arduous

We then head down to the beach – there are sooo many steps (about 1,000 apparently) and it takes a while but it’s worth it to get to one of the top 10 beaches in the world

There are a few sand breaks in the water so there are several layers of crashing waves – we strip down and go for a swim with the big waves – but it’s rather nippy!
Back up the many, many steps we go… then back down the other side and to the car ready for our drive to Launceston
Through the heart of Tasmania we go: starting off with an epic drive 6440m up a mountain to Lake Leake – with an emergency stop at Kalangadoo for fuel
Kalangadoo is an aboriginal word meaning Marsh Area… it is indeed a bit swampy

Rest of the drive is pretty flat through the plains of Tasmania – mostly farm land
Arrive at Launceston: it’s very hilly and some solid old buildings – real San Francisco vibes without the trams
Checkin to the Coachhouse Hotel, freshen up and walk into town for a cheeky Thai at Buddha Thai!
Starters of Satay chicken then our much loved Green Curry and Pad Thai ????

Post-dinner, we head to the Kings Bridge Bar for some Australia Day live music and some free pool
The place has a classic English pub feel, though was built in 1840 by convicts and actually moved to its spot in Launceston in 1972
We them head through town for our next spot, but in typical Australian fashion we find most places close by half 9.. except the Irish with its 6 people and some bad karaoke.. we move on and stumble upon the Oak Hotel – it’s buzzing! A live gig on, loads of people and reasonable price beer – win win!
Queue for the gig room is mental, but they do bang out some proper rock sounds as we wait and you can kinda see them as it’s not really a solid wall between the queue and the gig

British India (band) are an alt rock group, not too bad an indie band but are reasonably big in Australia playing at most of its festivals!
A couple of local wines and beers and we meander home up the steep hills of Launceston and past the city park
