Day 134 – Plenty of playful Platypus

Glencoe Country B&B has done us well for a good sleep and morning feed

Two English breakfasts with additional servings of yoghurt, fresh fruit and giant homemade croissants

Kick off the day at Tasmania’s Arboretum, which isn’t far, and has come highly recommended with a high chance of seeing the elusive Platypus ????

We aim for the Founders Lake at the heart of the area – lots of ducks, Black Swans, and a couple of potential spottings with ripples on the water

They have a Duck Hide and Platypus Observation Deck so we head there… and wouldn’t you know, Dave spots one!

There’s a couple other people out looking and two more come into view

Seems we’ve caught the knack of this – we spot at least 5 by the end

After doing a couple circles of the lake, we venture and have a look at the rest this place has on offer

They have two quarries so we look at the first, clearly once a whole hill

Next one has a lookout but we need to try and keep out of the sun so just ramble on the hill

This takes us to the “Eastern Asia” gardens where a trio of Black Cockatoos are noisily resting

Overall, we’re both very pleased with this and highly recommend a visit: only $5 donation PP required – absolute bargain!

Back to the car, we spot another Platypus in the closest lake verifying Daisy was the original spotter of Platypus ????

Next, it’s not far to Latrobe – this is apparently the Platypus capital of the world!

We park up by Bell Parade to look around the river and don’t spot any

They have a giant Platypus here!

Warrawee Forest Reserve is also nearby so we get there (not before arguing with Google as to it’s actual entrance and car park though!)

There’s several walks you can do here and we opt for the one along the Mersey River, covering about 1.8km

There is a walk on Shale Road but we get closer to the action with a tiny path on the river’s edge

About 20 minutes into the walk, we spot one!

Neither of our phone cameras caught it properly so you’re just going to have to take our word for it ????

We stroll the rest, feeling mighty successful, and get to a suspension bridge but it’s closed so that calls the end of this walk

In the car, we go East to Grindelwald where we are staying at Aspect Tamar Valley Resort tonight

They have a pool so we go soak in there for a little

Back to shower and change before dinner

We’re ready for some noms – a “parmi” for each of us tonight: one with garlic prawns, the other with ham and pineapple

Knicky-knacked, we get back to our cabin and snuggle up for bed
