An early start for Davesy – we dash to the Reef Fleet Terminal at 7:30am, in about 20 minutes, to make it just in time to check in and board the Silverswift

Today, we’re being whisked to the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef
We’re off to the outer part as this is where there’s most diversification of life as it’s close to the cold currents brought at the continental shelf border
The boat drives us about 1.5 hours until we make it to Flynn Reef

We hop straight in the water and snorkel for about 40 minutes
The water is very choppy but we get lucky to spot lots of different fish as well as two sleeping Reef Sharks!
Back on the boat, we have some lunch – a hot and cold buffet

After a feed, we’re back in – there’s word on the boat there’s been a couple of sightings of Turtles coming up for a breath so we cross our fingers
Wouldn’t you know, we catch a giant one resting on a bit of reef just off the boat!

We carry on with the snorkel, for about an hour, and spot several Trigger Fish and lots of colourful variations of Parrot Fish
On the boat, we get taken around another side of Flynn Reef – the site is known as Ski Slopes and had a lot of sandy banks and a big reef wall
This is our final snorkel time and we get in – spotted a couple of small/juvenile Maori Wrasse!

After an hour, we have to get back on the boat and start making our way back to land – it’s about 2 hours this way and we enjoy sunbathing on the front of the boat as we dry off
On land, we stroll along the promenade admiring the view of Cairns

Time for a little celebratory happy hour jug, at Rattle’n’Hum, and a chill before getting some noms

We share half an Aussie steak sandwich and half a rump steak
It’s certainly been a knackering day so we wonder back and watch some telly before calling it a night
