We wake and get a move on with having to cook the porridge on our hob this morning – goes nicely with some jam on top too

A little coffee to get us going, from Cafe Fresq: the usual two flat whites

We do a little retail therapy as some of our clothes have been lost along the way and needed replacing

Take the opportunity and stroll into an empty hairdressers to get both of us sheared

We caught a TV segment a while ago about food around Port Douglas and Mocka’s Pies is renowned for their Crocodile Laksa Pie and it must be tried… unfortunately, they’re on leave at the moment so the shop is shut until further notice ???? fingers crossed for another time!

Grab some dinner bits and load up with fuel before hitting the road – we’re going back North to where we were for the Solar Winds tour yesterday and further some more

The Daintree Ferry is a $46 return trip and goes pretty often

We’re warned that you can only go so far North but thankfully that aligns with our plans as we’re not allowed to take the rust bucket too far North

On the otherside, it’s clear the damage the recent cyclone had on the area… this side of the river was only opened last week

It’s not far until we reach Mount Alexandra Lookout – we enjoy the view with a little late lunch

There’s three way lights as the cyclone damage has destroyed one side of the road but it doesn’t take too long to get through

On to Daintree Discovery Centre where we get out and pay the entry ($39 each) to wonder around the boardwalks and aerial walkway

There’s a chance to catch a glimpse of a wild Cassowary here, as well as a multitude of other animals, in this very old rainforest (older than the Amazon!)

They have a 23ft canopy tower that we get a good view of the vast forest

Other things here include a reptile exhibit, a little aquarium and a 500+ year old Strangler Fig Tree

Around the corner from here is Jindalba Boardwalk and is partially closed from storm damage but we have a wonder as far as it allows us

No luck on a Cassowary just yet, but we’re being Casso-wary ????

We carry on the drive North and pop to Cow Bay Beach – potentially able to see Turtles from the shore here

We stroll around finding lots of pieces of Coral from the cyclone as well as a couple river estuaries

You’re not recommended to swim here as there’s a chance of Crocs hiding in these waters ????

Back to the car, we keep going until we make it to Thornton Beach Bungalows

Drop our possessions inside and then walk over the road to Thornton Beach

Glad we brought one of the brollies as it rains not once, but three times!

Cool to be able to see the rain as it falls elsewhere and then catches us

We get to the estuary of Cooper Creek, where there’s a chance of seeing some Crocs – we definitely don’t get too close

Back to our bungalow, we have access to a BBQ for tonight’s dins

Dave has to deal with a giant spider before we get started though ????

Lovely couple of burgers and a sausage each

Time for a shower and then to bed early as we’re both knackered

Just before, we find a little friend who’s joined us ☺️
