Day 184 – Bumming around Brisbane

Slow day again today where Dave’s up before Daisy so he sticks on some telly

Once she’s up, we have a cute breakfast of croissants and pikelets (pancakes) with maple syrup ????

We’re up late enough as well that we have our leftovers, from last night’s Chinese, as lunch before we set off

We’re a walkable distance to the centre so head off on foot to over Victoria Bridge and down William Street

Along here, they have Queens Gardens – seems Vicky was prolific in her reign here

The centre has a mix of historic and flashy, new buildings around

We stroll to meet Brisbane’s City Botanic Gardens which is opposite the state of Queensland’s Parliament

Nice garden area with lots of flying wildlife, including a bunch of Moorhen babies squealing

Round through the gardens takes us round to The Domain – it’s basically a tree with lights on it but looks like it’ll be pretty at night

We cross the Goodwill Bridge back to South Brisbane and along the Brisbane River waterfront where we pass the Streets Beach, which is a saltwater lagoon for public swimming

Further on, we make it to The Wheel of Brisbane and the Brisbane sign

We grab some liquid at a Woolies Metro and then make our way to go back over Vicky Bridge

We loop under the bridge to get a view of the other side (there’s lots of roadworks going on at the moment so have to go under) and get a lovely treat!

Beautiful little Brushtail Possum nomming on some banana peel

We get to the bridge and venture towards the centre where there’s Queen Street Mall, a shopping street

There’s also Brisbane Arcade which is a little walkway with some shops but one of the things to see as a tourist

We continue on popping into some shops to look at bits and bobs – Daisy’s phone is a bit worst for ware being several years old so in the market for a cheap fix

We find an option and look at selling her current one, though the back up takes forever… time for a pint at Pig N Whistle with a couple of cheap pints ????

It’s opposite the Brisbane Museum so not a bad view

We’re based in King George V Square so there’s a couple monuments about and Dave makes a metal friend

After some thought about our next travel plans, we go on to 4 Pines as it sorts us a couple of reasonably priced meal with some live music

We have a piri piri grilled chicken burger and a rump steak with a shared jug

Next door they have a more lively bar and nightclub where they’re hosting a beer pong competition so we enter – sadly, we lost but we’re sure it’s down to the poor lighting!

They also have a pool table so we play a game and then a couple other people want a doubles match so we indulge them

We go back to the front where the music is still going

It’s an open mic tonight and the last time they’ll be open for two years or so as they’re doing renovations so we think it’s fair to enjoy for a little and then walk home

En route, we catch a Brushtail Possum jumping around the roadworks – hopefully he doesn’t get spotted by the wrong person as they’re considered pests in QLD ????

Bed time!
