Day 199 – Moving around Phu Quoc

We don’t have to be out of our hotel until midday today so get up later than usual – needed as well with the other guests at the hotel making a racket from 6am!

To wake up, we have a few coffees with the bonus of some milk, we grabbed last night, making it much more familiar

No matter how long we’ve been travelling for, you do still get ‘first’s every so often: the hotel actually runs out of water so our showers are brief!

Time to make hast – we have all of our stuff and it’s straight into a Grab taxi hauling us to our next accommodation

It’s about a 40 minute drive North to the main township of Phu Quoc

Sleep Box Hostel is where we’re staying and, unlike as it suggests, it’s not actually a hostel, just a low standard hotel

We have a spritz and get back out to hunt for some food

On the way back to the main road, we make some chicken companions

There are several options of places to eat but we settle for Nhà Nghỉ Anh Dương as it has a couple combo meals offered which catch our eye

A big bonus too is that this place is right on the seashore so we get a nice view and breeze additionally

After food, we are really feeling the heat – maybe even some sun stroke from yesterday, sadly – so decide to go back to base and have some hours out of the sun and with some a/C

As well, we do some work and make plans for the following days of our shenanigans

At about 5:20pm, we make a shuffle for the street and head North – we’re looking for a way to the Phu Quoc Beach

We stumble on one and get directly on the shore – it’s a shame as it’s a pretty messy beach but good it’s going to good use as loads of locals are bobbing about as the sun is burning red on it’s way down

We walk across it and reach Dinh Cau temple; we then walk further past this where there’s a seawall and a bit more of a view where we sit and watch it go down

Time for food again – we walk through the streets until we meet one of the entrances for Chợ Đêm Night Market

This market is filled with clothes, souvenirs, snack stalls and many a seafood restaurant

We walk through and find it’s a little pricey – plus not really feeling seafood – so wander out and around

Not seeing anything we really fancy, we make our way back towards the market and find a nice little place by the river, called 3 Ngon Cafe

It’s got a cute view of the bridge at night and they have their own pets here

We order a combo meal of basically everything they serve here and then play with two puppies they have and see some chickens they have

These little fellas are Rutin Chickens which are the world’s smallest chicken, weighing between 44 – 57 grams, and are distributed in China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia – so cute!

Dinner arrives and it’s adorable that we’re presented it by basically the whole family – it’s a mix of Korean chicken, spicy noodles, salad, fried cheese, chips and a variety of sauces

After dinner, we get back to the market to see if there’s anything that takes our fancy for dessert as well as to look around the tatt this time

Nothing on the latter takes our eyes but we do go for a crepe each, one banana and honey and the other banana and chocolate

Pretty knicky-knacked, we make our way back and call it a night; we try and watch a film but the internet dies so we have The Day The Earth Stood Still on as background noise
