Day 31 – Three countries in one day!

Up and get out but we can, thankfully, leave our bags in the hotel as we have most of the day here before a late flight

Unfortunately, we miss our beloved maccies breakfast but go anyways for some lunch

Two “small” McRoyal meals and trying a product of the communist Czechoslovakian era: a sparkling grape soda, Vinea – yummy and a little like Shloer!

Wonder towards the UFO bridge and cross on one side to see if we can get up

We can! You go up a lopsided lift in the left pillar to the restaurant and walk the stairs to the very top observation deck

Amazing view even with the clouds, though absolutely, stonkingly windy – wind-iculous!

Check out the restaurant for a giggle but even if we were tempted, it’s booked for the next two days straight!

Down we come and pop to the Aupark mall as we have time to kill and stumble on Super Zoo – Daisy is extactic as there’s actually live animals to look at ????

After, we leave and Dave has the idea to go on some e-scoots around the park

We scoot to the SW of the bridge through where we were told yesterday was where the Iron Curtain caused the death of many trying to escape to the freedom of Austria

Nice now, but sobering to acknowledge

On the scoots, we get so far, Dave has the idea that we could get close enough to Austria to see the lax border (Schengen zone) – we get there and even sneak through the trees to cross briefly – second country of the day and it’s barely the afternoon!

Pass a WWII bunker, occupied by Nazis in 1938, one of three in the area and in pretty good condition

Back on our rides and we head back towards the centre but pop off to see a pebble beach on the Danube

Both of the scooters die, as we hit the 40min limit, so repurchase and head to an acceptable parking area

Cross the other side of the bridge to see the castle and back in to grab a snack

A poppyseed-filled traditional Slovak pastry from a a traditional German bakery, Pressburg Bajgel – the best in town apparently

Now for a sit down – a little bakery off the side of the Main Square, Spusta Sedlárska

Two cappuccinos with cinnamon (and a cheeky Dave)

We’re serenaded by a mad, Manchester-supporting local busker

With an awkward amount of time to kill, we set off for the Blue Church, or Church of St. Elizabeth

It’s truly, very, very blue

Stroll back and go by a Tesco – of course we have to go in and have a nose: so weirdly familiar but different!

We collect the bags, get to the bus stop and grab the bus to the airport – you can pay by card and all Bratislava’s public transport is frequent and well maintained, if not a little crowded

Arrive and breeze through security and no need for passport control (as off to another EU country) – they’ve even upgraded their security so we don’t need to remove our liquids and electronics for the x-ray!

Time for some dinner before our flight – options were limited to three similar places

A spot of MarioKart to pass the time

Flight is on time; win! Get on and we’re apart – stupid Ryanair 🙁 flight isn’t full so we can reunite with some extra leg room

A less than smooth landing, blame the wind, but we’ve made it to Greece!

Straight out and through to the exit and walk to our nearby hotel, Bretagne – very lovely and welcoming staff with decent bedrooms
