Day 32 – Chillaxing around Corfu

Nice to be be back in a country where shutters, curtains and pillows are a thing… even if they have tiny showers

Walk down to the sea front, only takes 10 mins: we stroll along the water with the Sea Tower in front and the views of mainland Greece and Albania across the sea

Rather windy so the waves crash against the sea wall occasionally getting us a tad wet!

Pass through the Pl. Leonida Vlachou Park and see a parade of Ferraris for whatever reason

Getting hungry, we head to Ta Kokopia for lunch

Greek salads and Greek coffee, of course ????

Off to investigate the area: we see a few museums and stroll through the Corfu Public Gardens where we spot Faliraki Corfu – a public bathing beach with a few bars (saving for later)

Head to the peninsula of the city – €9 for us both to go and explore

The winds are incredible! So powerful, if we were any lighter, we’d be whisked away ????

We roam in the Old Venetian Fortress into nooks and crannies and get to a little beach by the marina

Albania is the land you can see across the water!

Back up to see the highest point – pass the clock tower, round the steep inclines, next to the Dry Tower and where there’s a large Christian cross erected

Back down, we pop to the other side to see a British-made church on the peninsula

Holy Church of Saint George ️which is now converted into Greek Orthodox

With the intent of coffee for our long day today, we head towards the initial beach area we saw

Two grande cappuccinos and a tourist pirate ship in the distance

Onto more things – we walk around and see the New Venetian Fortress (though it shuts at 3:30pm but you can walk around the walls just as well)

Stroll around the old town looking for early dinner options and find the busy streets: Old Town Hall paired with Dimarchiou Square as well as Holy Church of Saint Spyridon towering over the narrow streets

We settle for Pane e Souvlaki – a popular, Souvlaki specialist

Mixed meat mezze for two with a house 1/2 litre of local white

Time is gaining on us – need to head back to the hotel for the bags… we head along the seafront watching the sunset back

To the airport where we breeze through security and have 20 mins before boarding – sorted ????

Boarding actually took longer than the whole flight time… though we love Aegean Airlines: efficient, kind staff and free snacks on the plane!

Arrive and no passport control so straight to the train to get to the centre – €9 pp for 90 mins of travel… but we make it in time and get to our hotel for sleep before beginning our Athenian adventure!
