Day 433 – Beaches and wandering to waterfalls

For today with the car, we plan to explore the eastern side of the bay we live in

We set off and fancy a coffee so stop off in Eastbourne and find a Sunday market being hosted in Muritai School

It’s nice to have a nosey around the offerings; we find Ip Man Asian Fusion round the corner and get a coffee from there before continuing our drive

Not much further on, we reach the end of the road so park up to have a look around; there’s a memorial for the Wahine disaster, as this is where the survivors washed up, and we find Lion’s Rock

We were told there was meant to be a colony of fur seals around here but not finding any, we have our lunch we premade and then carry on exploring – though not before Gary gets to enjoy the beach (see the featured image)

Next is Belmont Regional Park: we park in Hill Road Car Park and stroll up the hill finding a variety of war bunkers and farmland

We’re in hunt for kererūs (also known as New Zealand wood pigeons) but again don’t get too lucky so try another spot in the park

Oakleigh Street has another car park where you can access Belmont Regional Park – there’s a loop trail to Korokoro Dam

The walk is very, very downhill but then opens up to bring you to the water and where the dam is

As the day is getting on, we spend a little time here before ascending up to the car to get back for the evening

Tonight, we decide to make our own burgers which we enjoy with some James Bond
