As a treat, we opt to pay for the breakfast at the hotel – it’s a typical buffet but a cheeky way to be extra lazy

We haven’t got much on the agenda today other than a transfer so we get ready and head over to the Capitol VIP bus station
The minivan isn’t too delayed and we make a start for the drive
Oddly, this journey was more expensive than the six hour ride from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh and it’s half the time

The ride is filled with a mixture of casual speeding, around 130 kph at times, as well as honking at people in towns we pass by for the driver to make some extra cash ????
As well as this, there’s a point when the car makes a funny collection of noises and we begin to smell the clutch…
Thankfully, almost, it seems the driver is fine with this and we actually make it to the destination of Sihanoukville, or Preah Sihanouk

We drive past the Cambrew Beer Factory, which is owned by Carlsberg
We get a tuk tuk to our hotel, RIVA Hotel SHV, to drop our bags and head out to explore the area
This town gives us similar vibes to Phu Quoc, in Vietnam, where a lot of money has been invested in the area but no one is here yet – we learn that the Chinese basically bought the area and have been building hotels and casinos as a sort of resort holiday location
We wander to the seafront and walk along before finding Novotel’s beachfront restaurant for dinner

Before having some food, we enjoy a dip in the pool here with the sunset
It’s a little pricey here but it’s the only restaurant we can find with food we recognise so we just go for it – not feeling adventurous today!

We share a mixed meat platter; still a little bit hungry, we share a cheeseburger meal as well
After this, we wander along the beach a little to find that the high-rises all have very bright and garish lights once it’s dark
We make our way back to the hotel and spot a fish pet shop along the way (see the featured image)
