Day 99 – Getting wild in Sydney

Up a little late – maybe a jug too many yesterday ????

Wake up and doze about booking activities for today

Train to centre – get off at Wynyard and wonder around the wharfs

Pit stop in Subway to have a classic for lunch, though not our typical order as they have no tandoori chicken!

Teriyaki chicken on Italian does us nicely

Pop round the corner to get to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo on Darling Harbour – they have Aus’ top 5 critters for us to see

First an Echidna ???? they’re starting off strong

One of Australia’s two monotremes – egg laying mammals!

It’s next to the rare Tree Kangaroo as well as a broode of Tazzy Devils!

Yellow-footed Rock Wallabies are next – the difference between them and kangaroos is that they eat with their hands whilst the other eats directly with their mouths

They live with a Wombat – no sight until we see you can view in his den where he’s sleeping soundly; dead to the world ????

Cassowary: they only have one boy but he’s got some bird friends and a little wallaby with him – he’s called Princess because they thought he was a girl for most of his life and he acts quite feminine, bless him!

He puffed up and boomed but at a frequency phones can’t pick up; he’s fussy and only likes tall male humans – oh no, poor Dave!

Birds in his enclosure include the Brown Cuckoo Dove, Emerald Dove and the Satin Bowerbird (making a rather impressive weeved nest) as well as a wallaby (Red-legged Pademelon)

Snakes, lizards and insect critters too

Crocodiles are more water hunters than land – rarely attack humans as too big – seems we’re not worth the effort!

Great Red Kangaroos are with a Busy Stone Curlew (bird)

A Platypus ???? very shy little thing hiding in the corner and has a couple of lizards in with her – so much tinier than you’d expect!

Long-nosed Potoroo just won’t hold still for a photo ????

Koalas are adorable up their trees – so many all have their own spots and one has a baby too!

A heavy thunderstorm starts getting us all wet – including them ????

Down past Crocs and out

Walk along Darling Harbour to Barangaroo reserve and around Marrinawi Cove – this is the only place you can swim in the Harbour and is equipped with stinger nets

Through the wharf with its bars and things on the piers

Ives Steps a great view of the Harbour Bridge from below and up close

See a good view of the Opera House too

Dawes Point has the relics of canons that were used for defences of the harbour, before bridge was built in 1974

Stroll around The Rocks, the historic neighbourhood of Sydney – much was demolished in 1973 with an only some bits remaining original thanks to the efforts of a group of activists who refused to move!

To Munich for a happy hour steins of beer!

Time for some dins! Pop to a place Dave found before: Ribs & Burgers

Of course have to indulge in at least on of the menu items the place is named after!

Kilo of ribs and a large chips to share ????

Weather’s been on and off today but holding out at the moment so wonder to walk off dinner

Get to Pitt Street and pop into a Chemist Warehouse, Daisy’s new favourite shop, and they have a boxing day sale so we’re there for a minute or two

Panic now as we’re running a tad late – go to Westfield Shopping Mall and up to 5th floor where we enter the Sydney Tower Eye

The view is amazing, full 360° view of Sydney

From dusk till sunset, we get views all around

As it gets dark, the Tower closes so we get out and head back home

We have a film on with some popcorn and then bedtime
