Day 2 – Coffee, cheese & chill

It’s wet, wet start to the day in Amsterdam

We wake up in our lovely hotel, get ready and set out for the day by catch the Tram to get some brunch in the centre

There is a queue so we go get a nearby coffee, De Koffieschenkerij

To food! Heineken each with a toasty and steak bap to share from Café ‘t Gasthuys

Off to the Torture museum – good activity but bit lame/tame as not many bits and little certainty of accuracy

Walk through the floating flower market, Bloemenmarkt, where they are opposite rows of cheesemongers offering many a sample of cheese!

All the free cheese samples you can eat

Walk to Vondelpark: spotted a water vole, colony of wild parakeets, herons, rats, pigeons

Walk back to boat cruise just in time from a nicely located canal tour provider, Rederij P. Kooij

Saw the NEMO science museum, Booking.com head office, some old towers, under “largest bridge”, whilst hearing about some history

There were some stupid people on a mini motorboat that blocked the way for several large canal boats!

Off to Mister Meatballs – mash and balls, very different but nommy ????

Now for a drink Mata Hari by the canal (under a brolly with all the rain!) – white wine in hand observing the Chinese restaurants kitchens opposite just around the water line

Will it ever stop raining… Sneaked a peek into erotic shop with ginormous butt plugs. Seriously – these guys are bigger than your head!

Walked round the red light ladies to find our lunch spot for a €15 bottle of “prosecco”

Kept walking round the ladies in red until we found Dave’s previous lodging above an Irish pub – €8 for a Strongbow?!

Rain persists and we make it to another Irish pub, Durty Nelly’s, as we overheard some actual live music (!) and they happen to have a pool table

2 – 2, fair match!

Tram home and didn’t miss our stop this time – go us
