Day 56 – Making our way to Morocco

Start our morning in the cheaper (of two) Premier Inns at Gatwick airport

Make our way to security – only 15 mins behind schedule – and get through pretty speedily; hats off to them

Straight to our gate where we’re met with an EasyJet jobsworth who charges us almost £50 for a carry on just slightly larger than their requirements (and not a full flight)!

Flight is around 3 hours: Daisy naps on Dave and Dave keeps himself entertained (and out of mischief’s way ????)

We land in Morocco!

We disembark, get through passport control to find a security scanner at the customs barrier before exiting the airport – strange but fair enough

Out of there and straight to the bus stop: 30MAD pp for a return trip (about £3)

It gets us to the centre, Jemaa el-Fnaa, which is a square filled with the chaos of markets, food stalls and street performers

Settle immediately for Taj’in Darna to get out of the blazing 26 degree heat and (finally) some food

Chicken tagine ????

Time to check in so we go the route Google suggests…

We’re met by some children who tell us the streets are closed – they *kindly* offer to take us there themselves – unfortunately they were lying and just wanted some money…

Either way, we make it to the Riad – certainly an introduction to nice/helpful people having an alterior motive, unfortunately

Place is lovely, we’re situated downstairs just by where breakfast is served

First glance of Moroccan hospitality: always offered tea

Out, after a quick spritz, and start roaming to gain our bearings

Wonder round towards the main square again and sort of get taken for a ride by a local saying the main route is shut trying to get some change

We’ve made it there – so much chaos!

Walk through the Souk seeing all the tat shops and this lovely fresh herb segment

Make it to what we’re calling chameleon corner (no photos sadly as they charge you!)

Sun is setting and we find Panoramic Cafe, above The France Cafe, to get a good view

Two virgin mojitos with a view

Hunger strikes and we get to Cafe Chez Zaza which has a view over the neverending buzz!

We’re seated and order a range of things to make a feast

Chicken couscous, lamb chops and started with a Choucaka (spicy) salad

Stuffed, we head back and have an early night watching some Netflix before bed

We make sure to go back a route recommended by the riad so as not to get bothered too much ????

  1. No more trusting people who say the roads are shut! ????
